I stayed at the same motel in Kamloops and saw the bike there, it was inspiring and made me wish I was on a similar trip.  I wish you good luck and clear weather.

Jack and Janet,

I just stumbled across your trip page while investigating buying a Chang sidecar rig for fun.  Our real family station wagon is this Honda with a Texas Sidecar, but it sure doesn't work offroad.  I've ridden in England, but never in the adventurous places you will be.  I was living in London not too long after they rode and filmed Long Way Round with a ride that started in London and went East until coming to NYC.  You're living the adventure of which I sometimes dream.

Be safe. Have fun.

Best regards,

Gary "SideCar" Touchstone

ps If you make it back to Texas and need anything while you're here, don't hesitate calling.  We have some great bike mechanics and bikers in the DFW area and elsewhere.

Hi Jack,

I was the guy asking a lot of questions at the Comfort Inn in Duluth, Mn. I was half expecting to see you on our "in-house list" tonight, July 15th, but I'm guessing you two didn't make it to West Bend, Wisconsin this weekend due to the "iffy" weather. Anyhow, good luck with the rest of your trip. I hope I can do something like that someday. You're one of the most interesting people I've talked with in a long time. I hope everything goes good for you two!
If you make the return trip around the world, stop here again!

Sincerely,

Cliff

Jack and Janet I was the one that asked if your motorcycle was Russian at the restaurant in Lathrop Missouri at the 40 mile marker exit on I 35 in Missouri, And we asked if you were traveling the country, when you told us you were traveling the world by motorcycle. We saw the website on your windscreen, and thought it would be neat to see where you had been, we have only looked at your shake down ride, and most people would have quit before they started. We will continue reading your journals and follow your progress, have a safe trip and wish you well on your travels.

Dear Jack & Janet, (my old, old friends)

I just got caught-up on your journal entries.  If all is on schedule, you should be on your way from Memphis to Arnold today.  Each time I read another adventure I smile, knowing how much you are enjoying yourselves, and understanding that there are not too many people in the world who are like us- eager to see what is around the next bend of the road, experience new cultures unlike our own, and willing to put up with inconveniences to do so......

I'm sure you will enjoy great riding in Canada and the Yukon.  Lon and I drove 7,000 miles on the Alaskan highway two summers ago (something he had always wanted to do).  The beautiful vistas were magnificent, but the lack of visible wildlife was disappointing.  Maybe all the moose, bear, caribou & mountain sheep were waiting for you to ride by!!!!

When you head back south, please remember that I have guest rooms available (if Jay doesn't have a new house by then), and I will be waiting to hear some of the stories up close and personal from you both.     Love,    Arlene

From Jack Murray

What a ride so far!  We are finally in the States, on the last leg of the Dragin’ Run and looking at only 14,000 miles left to go.  That sounds strange until you take into account that we have already traveled more than 25,000 miles and have been in 30 countries in the last eleven months.

Janet and I want to thank all of you who have sent good wishes, advice and information requests.  I’m just sorry that we haven’t been able to respond to all of you personally but I hope you can understand that riding can be a demanding enjoyment that leaves us pretty well exhausted at the end of the day.

In many respects, this leg of our journey will allow us to visit our sponsors who have so generously contributed time, product and help all along the way.  Our first visit will be to AEROstich in Duluth.  I can’t wait to see Andy and his troupe to say thank you for all they have done.

We will receive our new seat from Bar Enterprises which should go a long way to improving our comfort as we begin a 7,000+ mile trek from south Florida to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

On a sad note, I found out last week while I was in China that my good friend Paolo Petronio, at Extreme Motorcycle Tours China passed away just after we left on the Dragin Run.  He is missed.

For those of you who are interested, I have included our itinerary from Palm Bay, Florida to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.  If you are anywhere along this route, let us know.  Maybe we can hook up for a coffee or even something a little stronger.

Jack:  It was nice meeting you at Palm Bay Colony in June of 07, discussing your cycle and your excursion.  I do hope that you will write a book about your adventures and the interesting people you met in foreign countries. If you wish to read of another great motorcycle adventure from Alaska to South America, read the book by Ed Culberson entitled "Obsessions Die Hard, Motorcycling the Pan American Highway's Jungle Gap"  He too used a BMW.  Best of luck to you both.  Bob

We just met you, and your wife, in NYC as you were unloading your bike

outside the Comfort Inn on 71st Street.  I made a comment about how much

luggage you seemed to be removing from the storage areas.  We admired

your bike and asked where you were coming from.  You said China - which

was surprising, to say the least!  We proceeded to have a very

interesting conversation regarding the school you started in China to

teach English to students (how wonderful!); your upcoming destinations

and the fact that you were travelling around the world - both ways!  All

we could say was "Wow"!  How exciting and absolutely wonderful!  Thank

you for giving us your email address so we could keep track of your

journeys.  "May the road rise to meet you; May the wind be always at

your back" ...  God Bless

North American Leg

Hi Jack and Janet.

I am still following your adventures. If you are in the area of Southern Alberta any time other than Sept 2 to Oct 3 (when I will be in Turkey and Greece) you have a resting place and a tour guide here. Lethbridge is only about 2 hours from the Alberta/Montana border and it is a beautiful area.

Tamara will be returning to Lethbridge with me in October. We may then take a trip to Southern Oregon to visit my son in Grants Pass. How far into California will you be going?  Maybe we can touch base then. When will you be returning to Changchun?

I'm glad you enjoyed Wales. I visit N.Wales every time I visit the UK. and I love it. My ancestors were from there.

Good luck on the next leg of your trip.

hi jack, hi janet!

i've been following your travels for quite some time, but unfortunately

i've been ill the very evening, that phil told me that you're in town...

bad luck, really! I missed a nice evening in the beer garden, heike told

me ;-) would have been a pleasure meeting you, but one never knows,

maybe some other time ;-)

anyway, i just read, that you plan going over to islay, which is my

absolute favorite spot in scotland, for obvious reasons ;-) no, it's not

just the liquid, it's the people as well, you will see :-)

BUT, as being an ardbeg fan it is my duty as an ardbeg committee member

to kindly ask you to pay a visit to ardbeg, tour the distillery, have

one of the best lunches you can get in the old kiln cafe and of course

send jackie stuart, the visitors center manager, the best wishes from me

:-) and of course have a dram of the finest whisky in the world ;-)

if you need a nice place to stay on islay, try the askernish bed and

breakfast in port ellen (www.islay.co.uk/askernish), joy, the landlady

is very nice and her son lewis is a biker himself... ;-) i've stayed

with them lots of times and i always felt very good there :-) as well

send them the best wishes from me!

if you want to go for a nice pint and a huge selections of all-islay

whiskies, you must go to the port charlotte hotel in port charlotte :-)

well, if these tips come too late for you, remember to come back to

scotland later ;-) in that case i hope you had a great time on that

beautiful island :-)

we (phil, heike, me an two more friends) will be in scotland ourselves

from may 26, but phil told me, you'll be on your way to canada then....

maybe next time ;-)

have a safe journey and enjoy whatever you do :-)

all the best from munich :-)
