Meet the Dragin RTW Riders
|
 |
|
Jack Murray
|
|
Jack
is the former Headmaster of Changchun Perfect English, a school
he co-founded with his wife, Janet, in January 2002. Jack is an
avid rider who has ridden everything from 50 cc bikes and trikes,
Gold Wings and an Aspencade. His last bike in the US — a BMW
K1200 LT. Now he rides a modified Chinese Chang Jiang sidecar
rig (with a 30 year old BMW engine – he always like hi-tech
stuff). Never one to take the easy route at anything, the
Dragin’ Run is one of his more ambitious undertakings (or really
stupid ideas). It represents the penultimate in all of the
dumb-ass ideas he has ever had (he just plain flat refuses to
talk about the other one for fear of abject ridicule). |

Janet Murray
|
|
Janet is the
former Director of Education for Changchun Perfect English, in
charge of academics and teachers. A former classroom teacher
and married to Jack for more than 42 years, which has certainly
prepared her for such a rigorous journey. Janet has always
ridden two-up with Jack and has never once fallen off the bike
despite her tendency to fall asleep on long legs.
Her desire for
international travel is one of the real reasons for this trip.
She agrees that spending a little more and seeing the world is a
far better thing than getting on a plane only to visit tourist
attractions in some remote or exotic place. “It’s the people
that are the most interesting.” |

Another rider
|
|
Tamara Smith
is a Canadian teacher that joined Perfect English in
November 2003 and wasn’t smart enough to get out of the school
before she fell in love with the Chinese kids she teaches.
After giving up her Honda Shadow and her love of touring via two
wheels to come to China to teach, she decided that she would
really like to join in the Dragin’ Run and do something a bit
longer than she has done before. An excellent teacher, a
relatively (her word) young, fun woman whose biggest fear is
getting stuck in any kind of rut and being labeled “mundane”.

Casual riders
|
|
Casual riders are welcome to join in any part of the route they choose so long as they bring good food, cold beer and most importantly, a good attitude and a sense of adventure. |
